Bathurst Swimming Pool

The swimming pool was given as a present to the inhabitants of Lydney and Aylburton by the Bathurst family, Bathurst Pool was opened on 2nd October 1920.  It was donated to the people of Lydney and Aylburton by Charlies Bledisloe and it was to celebrate the 21st Birthday of his eldest son Benjamin Ludlow Bathurst. Today we welcome visitors and are pleased to see anyone who would just like to pop in for a cup of tea and enjoy the lovely surroundings.

This ancient forest has changed many times over the centuries. In medieval times it was a royal hunting forest, before becoming a source of timber for the navy's Tudor warships. By Victorian times it was a major site of industry, with coal mining and tramways punctuating the landscape.

Did you know that over a 1/4 million people in the UK need Changing Places Toilets (CPT) to enable them to get out and about and enjoy the day-to-day activities. To use a toilet in safety and comfort, people need to be able to access a CPT, which has more space and the right equipment, including a height adjustable changing bench, a peninsular toilet and a celling hoist.

This tour shows the gardens, outlying views and the inside of the main house. The centre  is a country estate nestled within 30 acres of private grounds in the Forest of Dean, with ancient woodland, wildflower meadows and gardens. We enjoy commanding spectacular views over the River Severn to the Cotswolds and the Malvern Hills over 20 miles away.
